INDIA. Delhi Duty Free Services, a three-way partnership between two of the industry’s leading retailers and Delhi International Airport Limited, has opened over 30,000sq ft of duty free shopping space at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s new Terminal 3 in Delhi. “Operating at T3, the sixth-largest terminal in the world with a 34 million passenger handling capacity, we expect huge footfall and see enormous scope for the growth of airport retailing in India," says Delhi Duty Free Services CEO Nicholas Goddard Palmer.

NEW ZEALAND. Auckland Airport has completed the second of two major retail milestones for the year with the August opening of six new-look speciality stores in the eastern side of the ambitious airside redevelopment. Additionally JR/Duty Free has opened a luxury watches area; and more exciting retail and food & beverage developments are imminent as the airport (and the whole country) builds up for Rugby World Cup year in 2011.

NETHERLANDS. Schiphol Group yesterday unveiled the Holland Boulevard, a high-class Dutch-themed retail, food & beverage, lounge and entertainment zone between piers E and F at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The area features the world’s first library at an airport, a unit celebrating the history of the Bols brand, a revamped museum store, massage, relaxation and kids’ play areas, plus an impressive Dutch Kitchen from HMSHost. The Moodie Report was on hand for the opening.

GERMANY. Gebr Heinemann is deepening its offer of regional products at Berlin’s key airports as it prepares for the opening of a new international airport serving the capital, which opens in June 2012. The company has just added a range of speciality Berlin pickles, which it says typify its drive to expand its destination offer.

One month on from their official opening, China Duty Free Group's stores at Hangzhou International Airport’s new terminal are delivering sales results beyond forecasts while transforming the customer experience at this key tourist gateway. SINGAPORE. Bee Cheng Hiang Retail has captured a brand-name delicatessen at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3, Departure/Transit Lounge North. The company won the 26sq m concession following a tender, with other bidders including King Power International (representing Harrods) and Fragrance Foodstuff.

CYPRUS. CTC-ARI Airports has launched a campaign to celebrate one of Cyprus’s unique local products, Commandaria sweet wine. The promotion includes tastings at Larnaka International Airport, where over 100,000 passengers can sample the product until 1 August. CTC-ARI Airports is a strong supporter of Cypriot goods through its acclaimed Kypriaka destination merchandise concept.

FRANCE. Leading French travel retailer Aelia has begun the roll-out of its new retail identity, Aelia Duty Free, to its latest stores at Bordeaux Mérignac and Lille Lesquin airports. The company’s updated retail brand, complete with new-look fascia, was first introduced across Aelia's stores at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport in May.

CHINA. Tomorrow, 3 July, is an auspicious occasion as the new 96,000sq m international terminal opens at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. The commercial offer includes two highly ambitious and upscale retail stores run by China Duty Free Group (CDFG) set in the international and domestic lounges. CDFG President Lu Lu described the company’s partnership with the airport as “a great milestone”.

AUSTRIA. Gebr Heinemann has unveiled its Heinemann Duty Free retail brand at the newly expanded and refurbished store at Salzburg Airport. The 415sq m store is the first outside Germany to feature the Heinemann Duty Free identity. A major highlight, says the retailer, is the installation of a new-look ‘Regionals’ zone for destination items, with a design theme that reflects Salzburg and its surrounding areas.

CANADA. HDS Retail North America has just opened its latest speciality retail concept, an apparel store named Red Canoe, at Montréal Trudeau International Airport. Red Canoe is a Toronto-based company that designs collections of clothing, headwear and accessories based around vintage icon brands, from Boeing to the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

CHINA/HONG KONG. Nuance-Watson (HK) has launched a series of special promotions at its Hong Kong International Airport stores to mark this year’s Expo 2010 in Shanghai, which runs until October. Among the initiatives is a prize draw for shoppers, while passengers have the chance to pose for photos with the Expo 2010 mascot at a specially erected Hong Kong Pavilion at the airport.
