Heathrow launches latest Travel Product Awards

UK. BAA today launched the Heathrow Travel Product Awards for 2010, which will recognise "the best travel accessories and gadgets" on offer at the airport. The awards will be decided by the British public, who are being encouraged to vote online for their favourite items. This year, 12 categories are being put to the public vote, including Travel Must-Have, Best Handbag, Top Travel Read and Best Travel Entertainment.

Changi Airport seeks books concessionaire for T3 outlet

SINGAPORE. Changi Airport Group is seeking a books & stationery concessionaire for a unit at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3. The closing date is 27 September and the contract runs from 9 January 2011 until 31 December 2014.

Schiphol Group yesterday unveiled the Holland Boulevard, a high-class Dutch-themed retail, food & beverage, lounge and entertainment zone between piers E and F at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The area features the world’s first library at an airport, a unit celebrating the history of the Bols brand, a revamped museum store, massage, relaxation and kids’ play areas, plus an impressive Dutch Kitchen from HMSHost. Lagardère Services captures Canberra news & books concession

AUSTRALIA. Lagardère Services Asia Pacific has been awarded the news & books concession at Canberra Airport following a tender. The travel retailer will operate a 190sq m store in the new Southern Concourse Terminal at the airport, which is currently undergoing a major upgrade of its facilities.

Dufry plots ambitious expansion in 2010

INTERNATIONAL. Dufry Group plans to open close to 20,000sq m of new retail space in 2010, covering 152 stores, CEO Julián Díaz told analysts after Thursday’s half-year results announcement. More than half of the stores will open in Q3 and Q4, with a strong contribution from Dufry’s Hudson acquisition. Díaz also reiterated the retailer’s desire to expand in emerging markets, with Russia, China and India of particular interest.

Áreas expands its Spanish footprint at Alicante International Airport

SPAIN. Áreas has been awarded the management of 12 establishments (nine restaurants and three shops) at Alicante International Airport. "This new contract is a significant culmination of the presence of Áreas in Spanish airports and it bolsters our leadership as a provider of comprehensive services to travellers on the move,” said Áreas President Peter Fontana.
