USA. Los Angeles World Airports is forging ahead with further expansion of its Tom Bradley International Terminal, following an earlier renovation of the terminal and the landmark Theme Building. Budgeted at US$1.545 billion, the Bradley West project promises to deliver a world-class airside retail concourse when it is completed in December 2012.

NETHERLANDS. Schiphol Group has reported a solid +2.8% year-on-year rise in revenues from its Consumers Business Area in H1 2010, to €137.6 million. Crucially, average spend in the See Buy Fly shops rose by +3.4% to €15.74 in the half. The division’s revenues were hit to the tune of €2.7 million by the volcanic ash cloud in April and May. Revenue for the group as a whole hit €545 million in the half, down by -1.5%, though profits grew sharply.

Schiphol Group yesterday unveiled the Holland Boulevard, a high-class Dutch-themed retail, food & beverage, lounge and entertainment zone between piers E and F at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The area features the world’s first library at an airport, a unit celebrating the history of the Bols brand, a revamped museum store, massage, relaxation and kids’ play areas, plus an impressive Dutch Kitchen from HMSHost. UK. SABMiller Travel Retail & Duty Free has unveiled a bespoke Grolsch bar in one of British Airways’ flagship lounges at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, coinciding with some of the summer’s major sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup. Bar staff have been trained to serve customers the Dutch beer brand’s iconic Swingtop bottle using one of six opening techniques – Swingtop Chop, The Slice, Booty Pop, The Drop, Klik and Snatch.

UK. Manchester Airport today opened its new Escape Lounge in Terminal 1 to the public, with over 100,000 passengers expected to use the £1.7 million facility each year. “Our aim was to create a memorable experience for both our business and leisure passengers with great ambiance, service and food made to order,” said Commercial Director Andrew Harrison.
