 QATAR. Qatar Airways has announced further expansion to its Indian network with a +20% increase in frequency covering the cities of Delhi, Cochin and Amritsar from next month. With a total of 14 additional flights being phased in over a period of two months, Qatar Airways’ capacity to India will increase from 74 to 88 services each week.

Delhi Duty Free Services, a three-way partnership between two of the industry’s leading retailers and Delhi International Airport Limited, has opened over 30,000sq ft of duty free shopping space at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s new Terminal 3 in Delhi. “Operating at T3, the sixth-largest terminal in the world with a 34 million passenger handling capacity, we expect huge footfall and see enormous scope for the growth of airport retailing in India," says Delhi Duty Free Services CEO Nicholas Goddard Palmer.

 INDIA. Ethos Swiss Watch Studios has opened its latest duty free outlet at Indira Gandhi International Airport's new Terminal 3. It offers 15 Swiss watch brands such as Omega, Chopard, Cartier, Longines, Edox and Tissot. Ethos Swiss Watch Studios is India’s largest Swiss watch retail chain and is the only multi-brand retail chain present at airports across India.

The Middle East Duty Free Association (MEDFA) and TFWA are finalising the programme for the annual MEDFA Conference, which will take place at the Mena House Oberoi Hotel overlooking the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo on 28-29 November. Scheduled airline passenger traffic will leap by +6.4% year-on-year in 2010, with Asia Pacific taking a lead role, according to the latest report by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The figures, which are measured in passenger-kilometres performed (PKPs), compare to a decline of -2% in 2009.

 INDIA. GMR–Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has opted to run its duty free operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in-house, once the incumbent, The Nuance Group (India) exits the business this month. A spokesman told The Moodie Report: “We have gained a lot of knowledge and experience, so we are going to do the duty free by ourselves. We are looking for partners for supply agreements.”
