Qatar Airways embarks on major Indian expansion

QATAR. Qatar Airways has announced further expansion to its Indian network with a +20% increase in frequency covering the cities of Delhi, Cochin and Amritsar from next month. With a total of 14 additional flights being phased in over a period of two months, Qatar Airways’ capacity to India will increase from 74 to 88 services each week.

Delhi Duty Free Services, a three-way partnership between two of the industry’s leading retailers and Delhi International Airport Limited, has opened over 30,000sq ft of duty free shopping space at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s new Terminal 3 in Delhi. “Operating at T3, the sixth-largest terminal in the world with a 34 million passenger handling capacity, we expect huge footfall and see enormous scope for the growth of airport retailing in India," says Delhi Duty Free Services CEO Nicholas Goddard Palmer.

It offers 15 Swiss watch brands such as Omega, Chopard, Cartier, Longines, Edox and Tissot. Asia Pacific set to drive global airline traffic growth, says ICAO

Scheduled airline passenger traffic will leap by +6.4% year-on-year in 2010, with Asia Pacific taking a lead role, according to the latest report by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The figures, which are measured in passenger-kilometres performed (PKPs), compare to a decline of -2% in 2009.

GMR opts to run Hyderabad duty free concession in-house

INDIA. GMR–Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has opted to run its duty free operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in-house, once the incumbent, The Nuance Group (India) exits the business this month. A spokesman told The Moodie Report: “We have gained a lot of knowledge and experience, so we are going to do the duty free by ourselves. We are looking for partners for supply agreements.”
