Schiphol Group yesterday unveiled the Holland Boulevard, a high-class Dutch-themed retail, food & beverage, lounge and entertainment zone between piers E and F at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The area features the world’s first library at an airport, a unit celebrating the history of the Bols brand, a revamped museum store, massage, relaxation and kids’ play areas, plus an impressive Dutch Kitchen from HMSHost. Earlier this summer Scental Travel Retail Asia Pacific (L’Oréal) organised a pioneering promotion for its Biotherm brand in South Korea – the first time an event has taken place simultaneously domestically and on-airport. The promotion, which sported a “1-2-3 Hydration” theme, focused on Biotherm’s key moisturising portfolio.

FRANCE. Hayasei is the name of a men's grooming range, new to the beauty sector and to travel retail. Launched in February 2010, the range claims to give instant and effective results. The French brand's 25-year-old founder Mohamed Zahhar says he aims to bring innovation and freshness to the male grooming market.

INTERNATIONAL. The Estée Lauder Companies has reported net sales of US$7.8 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, a +6% increase compared with the previous fiscal year. Net earnings for the year were US$478.3 million, leaping from US$218.4 million last year. Strong sales growth came from the international businesses, particularly in travel retail, Asia Pacific and emerging markets.

FRANCE. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s leading luxury products group, recorded revenue of €9.1 billion in the first half of 2010, up +16%, boosted by double-digit organic revenue growth in all business units. The Selective Distribution division, which includes leading travel retailer DFS, saw a +14% upswing in first-half revenue and recorded growth of +36% in profit from recurring operations.

Leading travel retailer and wholesaler B&S Paul Global has unveiled a radically expanded and enhanced duty free store serving NATO staff at the Allied Joint Force Command base at Brunssum in the Netherlands. FRANCE. Leading French travel retailer Aelia has begun the roll-out of its new retail identity, Aelia Duty Free, to its latest stores at Bordeaux Mérignac and Lille Lesquin airports. The company’s updated retail brand, complete with new-look fascia, was first introduced across Aelia's stores at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport in May.

UK. Elemis will exhort consumers to “Think Pink and be Breast Aware” this autumn, with the launch of its limited-edition Sparkling Beauty Collection. The set – created to support Breast Cancer Awareness month in October – will be available from September, priced at around £50. In other news, Elemis has introduced a new redensifying Pro-Intense Eye and Lip Contour Cream, and a second fragrance called Elemis Exotic.

SOUTH KOREA. Ballantine’s Scotch whisky, Camus Cognac, Estée Lauder and Chanel fragrances led Korean Air’s inflight duty free sales rankings by value for June in their respective categories. Hawaiian Sun (confectionery) and Swarovski (miscellaneous) were among the other strong performers for the world's leading inflight retail operation.

LVMH is to acquire a 70% stake in Sack’s, the leading online retailer of fragrances, cosmetics and toiletries and one of the leading companies in the beauty distribution sector in Brazil. The acquisition will mark LVMH-owned Sephora’s entry into the Brazilian fragrances and cosmetics market, one of the largest and fastest-growing beauty markets worldwide.

UK. Following the completion by BAA of its new security area at Edinburgh Airport, WDF has officially launched its World Duty Free store. The 6,942sq ft shop is the centrepiece of the newly designed airport facilities and has been re-located to sit immediately opposite the entrance into the Departures lounge. A first for World Duty Free, it also features a new-look World of Whiskies store.

BRAZIL. Dufry has pledged its support for international children’s charity, SOS Children’s Villages, through its dedicated ‘Dufry – Global Support’ programme. This week, Dufry inaugurated its new social centre in Igarassu, Brazil, committed to the support of disadvantaged Brazilian families. The Dufry-Social Center was constructed with funding by Dufry, which will also finance the running of the centre and the training classes.
