Butlers Chocolates brings new flavours to Cannes

IRELAND. Premium Irish chocolatier Butlers Chocolates is launching a number of new lines at the TFWA World Exhibition, including a Dark Assortment for the Butlers Premium Collection, six new flavours for its 100g bars, as well as a new collection of chocolate assortments, available in 100g, 150g and 300g sizes.

Duc d’O to unveil new ‘Les Manons’ praline in Cannes

BELGIUM. Duc d'O Chocolaterie is presenting two new products, as well as line extensions and upgraded packaging, at the TFWA World Exhibition next month. The first major launch is ‘Les Manons’, a new praline-style chocolate made out of four different parts, created in four flavours. Also new is a range of liqueur filled pralines, available in four flavours: Luxardo Limoncello, Cointreau, Amaretto, and Rhum Saint-James.

Changi Airport Group issues tenders for vital T1 concessions

SINGAPORE. Changi Airport Group has tendered the key confectionery concession at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 1, with bids due by 23 September for the 304sq m unit. The airport company has also issued a tender for the first 'dual concept' Watch & Jewellery concession in the same terminal, with bids due by 28 September.

Birthday boost for Kit Kat as 75th anniversary packs take off

INTERNATIONAL. Nestlé International Travel Retail is marking Kit Kat's 75th anniversary in 2010. The company has launched two exclusive limited-edition packs – a 48 two-finger 993g Gift Box and 200g 12 x two-finger Mini Dispenser – while existing presentations incorporate a special 75th anniversary logo. Promotions worldwide have seen “notable success”, particularly at airports in Istanbul, Dubai, Brazil, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Toronto.

Confectionery holds up well as sales lag behind traffic at Hellenic

GREECE. More details have emerged about Hellenic Duty Free Shops’ first half results, released earlier this week. Hellenic said that sales (-8.9%) had not kept pace with passenger growth (+1.1%), falling particularly sharply in April (volcano cloud) and June. Confectionery, up +4.0%, resisted the negative trend.

North America Duty Free unveils new confectionery lines for kids

US. North America Duty Free has teamed up with Frankford Candy to offer a range of licensed Disney and Nickelodeon confectionery products in travel retail. The partnership will enable them to supply duty free customers with confectionery products affiliated with popular children's characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Disney Princess, Toy Story, Cars, Mickey Mouse, Hello Kitty, Harry Potter, and Dora the Explorer.

Delhi Duty Free unveils an Indian airport shopping extravaganza

INDIA. Delhi Duty Free Services, a three-way partnership between two of the industry’s leading retailers and Delhi International Airport Limited, has opened over 30,000sq ft of duty free shopping space at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s new Terminal 3 in Delhi. “Operating at T3, the sixth-largest terminal in the world with a 34 million passenger handling capacity, we expect huge footfall and see enormous scope for the growth of airport retailing in India," says Delhi Duty Free Services CEO Nicholas Goddard Palmer.

Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, returns to the TFWA World Exhibition this year as an umbrella stand for six Irish confectionery, seafood and drink companies (Stand number: Mediterranean Village N17). This year the stand will include first time exhibitor Atlanfish, showcasing a range of premium Irish shellfish and crustacean products under its Cashelmara brand.

GERMANY. Ferrero's Kinder chocolate brand was in the spotlight at Munich Airport in a month-long shop-in-shop promotion. Kinderino, the Kinder Surprise egg-shaped mascot, carried a selection of national flags, and customers could choose a Kinderino with the flag of the country they supported. Ferrero also offered a branded shoulder-bag as a gift to customers spending more than €15 on chocolates.

SOUTH KOREA. Ballantine’s Scotch whisky, Camus Cognac, Estée Lauder and Chanel fragrances led Korean Air’s inflight duty free sales rankings by value for June in their respective categories. Hawaiian Sun (confectionery) and Swarovski (miscellaneous) were among the other strong performers for the world's leading inflight retail operation.

Dubai Duty Free tops US$607 million in powerful first-half showing

Fresh from a recession-busting record year in 2009, Dubai Duty Free today announced a +16% rise in first-half sales to US$607million. “We have seen an increase in consumer spending across all categories, with average spend per departing passenger at US$47,” says Dubai Duty Free Managing Director Colm McLoughlin.

China Duty Free opens top-class retail offer at Hangzhou Airport

CHINA. Tomorrow, 3 July, is an auspicious occasion as the new 96,000sq m international terminal opens at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. Cadbury unveils new display units for travel retail
