ABOUT US

The Moodie Report.com is published by London-based independent company Moodie International Ltd, now one of the UK’s most successful multi-media business-to-business publishers and information providers.

The website was launched in March 2003 and quickly became established as an indispensable source of reliable and real-time business intelligence on the global travel retail sector. It now regularly attracts over 200,000 page views a month.

The Moodie Report.com grew out of The Moodie Report, a weekly e-Newsletter and PDF for the travel retail industry launched in September 2002. The Moodie Report has effectively challenged – and reinvented – the whole trade press model, winning widespread industry recognition for its no-nonsense, easy-to-read format, style and content, mercifully free of the usual industry speculation, spin and barely disguised advertorial.

The e-Newsletter and PDF (now known as The Moodie Report 7 Days) is now sent to over 6,500 readers each week (a list that is regularly updated and cleaned) making it easily the best-read media in the travel retail marketplace, as well as the most respected and trusted.

In October 2003 our brand was extended to The Moodie Report Print Edition. Published in a unique user-friendly concise size that is handy for travel, briefcase or handbag, it was an immediate critical and commercial success and is now a clear leader on a like-for-like issue basis in advertising terms.

Unlike other trade publications, it avoids the semi-advertorial 'product feature' driven approach and focuses instead on in-depth analysis of the industry and of the drivers underpinning the business – such as currency and tourism trends. From 2007 the quarterly frequency was extended to five times a year, bolstered by intelligent supplements – including The Moodie Report Category Insight and dedicated retailer and airport supplements.

In October 2007 we launched The Moodie Report Digital Print Edition, using award-winning ‘Olive’ software that provides readers anywhere, anytime access to current and back issues. It enhances the user experience through multimedia and a variety of viewing options, as well as allowing search capabilities of all articles, advertisements and images across the entire Print Edition.

Unlike any rivals using similar technology for their paid subscribers, The Moodie Report Digital Print Edition is sent by hyperlink to the entire readership of The Moodie Report e-newsletter and 7 Days – free of charge.

As an organisation we continue to invest heavily in innovative digital media, including The Moodie Podcast, The Moodie Blog, The Moodie Forum and a popular new service called The Moodie View that allows us to show film clips and video online.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Martin Moodie founded Moodie International in early 2002, after nearly a decade and a half at Raven Fox, publisher of the prominent print publication, Duty-Free News International (DFNI). From 1996 to January 2002 he was Managing Director there, having been Group Editor until the company was acquired by Euromoney in 1995.

Moodie International publishes The Moodie Report, plus an annual guide for The Middle East Duty Free Association (MEDFA) and other occasional publications, such as the 20th anniversary supplement for Canada's Frontier Duty Free Association (November 2004), a celebratory report on King Power Group's twin airport and downtown openings in Bangkok, Thailand in late 2006, and (in June 2009) an acclaimed supplement on the stunning new Terminal 3 at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The company is closely involved in conferences with both Martin Moodie and Deputy Publisher Dermot Davitt being called on regularly to moderate in-house and industry events.

The company conceived and organised the travel retail industry's most acclaimed conference, The Trinity Forum held in June 2003, an event it repeated in September 2005. Excitingly, in 2007 the Forum became a joint venture with Airports Council International (ACI) World - called The ACI Business & Trinity Forum. The most ambitious airport commercial revenues conference of 2007 was held in Dubai, attracting a sell-out audience of over 350 delegates. The 2008 event held in Shanghai was an even bigger success and the 2009 Forum moved to the buzzing location of Macau.

Moodie International also ran the spectacular China Travel Retail Summit in May 2002 and co-moderates the programme at the annual Middle East Duty Free Association (MEDFA) conference.

The Moodie Report.com editorial team is headed by Managing Director and Publisher Martin Moodie, plus Deputy Publisher and Print Editor Dermot Davitt. Dermot joined the team in April 2006 after a long and successful editorial and management career at Raven Fox, where at one point he worked as DFNI Editor under Martin Moodie. An astute and reasoned commentator and reporter, he is also an adroit conference moderator. He is charged with developing the company's fast-expanding print division.

Associate Editor Rebecca Mann is a vastly experienced and talented journalist, whose knowledge of the key fragrances and cosmetics sector is second to none among industry reporters. She was formerly Managing Editor of DFNIand is fluent in French and – when required – Welsh.

Brands Editor Mary Jane Pittilla, formerly Chief Sub-Editor at DFNI, is an outstanding talent who takes full responsibility for The Moodie Report.com's acclaimed 'Brand Showcase' editorial coverage.

Our Online Content and Innovation Manager is Matt Willey, formerly Editor and Content Manager at SPG Media, where he was responsible for the editorial content and budgets of six independent publications, eight websites and the speaker commissioning for two exhibition forums per year. At SPG he edited Future Airport for four years.

In August 2007, the company opened an Asia Pacific office based in Singapore. It is headed by highly talented Asia Bureau Chief Melody Ng.

Soon afterwards the company continued its regional expansion by hiring one of the most experienced and respected freelancers in the travel retail sector, Peter Dowling, based in Auckland, New Zealand, as Special Correspondent for Latin America and Asia Pacific. He is supported in Auckland by another experienced journalist, Alessandra Zecchini, as Regional Correspondent for Asia Pacific.

Following the company's rapid expansion, Jon Elphick was appointed Production Editor in December 2003. He was formerly Chief Sub-Editor at DFNI, where he earned a formidable reputation for accuracy and punctuality concerning all editorial production matters. He is supported by the superb design skills of freelancer Ray Heath.

The Moodie Report’s complex web programming and other technical services are in the expert hands of Dilantha Fernando, based in Brisbane, Australia.

The team was bolstered in late 2009 by the appointment of Research & Analysis Manager Jessica Lana.

Another ex-Raven Fox manager, Bob Wilby, takes charge of all administrative matters in his key role as Chief Operating Officer, ensuring that all issues to do with readership, circulation, and general operational matters are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Quality customer service is integral to Moodie International's approach and to Bob's role.

In 2004 the team gained the services of one of the industry's top advertising executives, Mandy Sime as Commercial Director. Mandy Sime (formerly Cohen and Shine) has extensive trade media experience and worked with Martin Moodie at Raven Fox (running contract publishing division Raven Fox Cohen) and was later Managing Director of our respected rival Travel Retail Business.

In April 2005 she was joined by Advertising Development Director Claire Wates, an outstanding sales executive from Raven Fox, and another former colleague of Martin Moodie's. And in 2007 the commercial team was strengthened even further when long-time Frontier magazine (and Awards) Associate Publisher Sarah Genest joined the team as Advertisement & Events Development Director.

In early 2007 Moodie International Ltd acquired the rights to The Airport Retail Study, the acclaimed airport commercial revenues benchmarking study written by Ivo Favotto, formerly of URS Corporation and now with The Nuance Group. The first edition under the new ownership was published in July 2007 and the second – now called The Moodie Airport Commercial Revenues Study – was launched in July 2009.

The Moodie Report is committed to providing quality business intelligence in a fast and flexible format. In a global industry, we believe information needs to be conveyed quickly, accurately and in a no-nonsense style. We put a huge premium on speed and integrity of information, coupled with the best distribution in the market.
